I came from Accounting background in Secondary School. Back then, I truly believed that I would pursue Accounting field due to the influence of my family. I had strong passion in Accounting as I liked how it can be done systematically to reach the result, which can be analysed logically.
I got into HR field unexpectedly for my Diploma. It is very different from Accounting because it focuses on people, relationships which require good communication and interpersonal skills to manage.
I have been in HR field for 7 years. After I finished the 3 years Diploma in HR, I decided to continue Bachelor Degree in HR because of three reasons:
My belief - People is the foundation of a business. It is also an asset that can make the business successful.
My motivation - I feel the needs to protect employees' rights, welfare and empower them to flourish in career and even in life.
My Philosophy - Every individual is naturally curious and creative to come out with brilliant ideas. We deserve the autonomy and are responsible to create our own meanings in life, including our career.
Same as people, we can be given many different labels, BUT WE SHOULD BELIEVE WE has many possibilities.
During these 4 years in SUSS, there are various impactful experiences that have shaped my perspective of HR.
To me, HR is multifaceted role in an organisation who needs to manage employee perspective and organisational perspective so that both can align and contribute to the shared goals. It requires HR to participate actively in strategic formation and implementation of an organisation.
Although many may still see HR as an administrative role, the perspective will soon be changed with digitalisation and AI which can eliminate the mundane repetitive tasks from HR personnel. To grow business, HR needs to analyse employee data and understand business to build a pool of capable employees who can contribute to the business's existing direction and future direction.
Therefore, I have been equipping myself with the relevant knowledge and skillsets through study, internship, work experiences, overseas summer school experience etc. I have highlighted a few experiences in this website.
