About Lee Lockwood Library and Museum

The Lee Lockwood Scottish Rite Library and Museum is owned and operated by the Scottish Rite Foundation of Texas (SRFTX), a 501(c)(3) organization.

Mission Statement:

The sole purpose of the Scottish Rite Foundation of Texas is to be administer the operations of the Lee Lockwood Texas Scottish Rite library and Museum. Toward this goal the Library and Museum collects, catalogs, and preserves for the use and enlightenment of present and future generations the history of Freemasonry in Texas, as well as nationally.and internationally. The Library and Museum accepts responsibility for these collections as a public trust, utilizing these collections for educational programs and exhibits, and for research.

Organization:

The Foundation has a Board of Trustees composed of individuals elected by their respective Valleys in the Orient of Texas. The term “Valley or “Scottish Rite Valley’: is defined as an arbitrary geographical subdivision within a state or country to facilitate the administration and activities pf the Scottish Rite of Freemasonry. Representation on the Board is based on membership in each Valley [Galveston, Dallas, San Antonio, Houston, Austin, Waco, Fort Worth, El Paso, and Lubbock], one representative per one thousand members. This Board of Trustees meets annually. The officers and standing committees are as follows: Chairman of the Board of Trustees, President. nine (9) Vice Presidents, Executive Administrator, Secretary, Treasurer,· Executive Committee, Finance Committee. Library and Museum Gift Procurement Committee, and the Nominating Committee.

The Chairman of the Board of Trustees is the Sovereign Grand Inspector in Texas, and the other officers are elected annually from the Board of Trustees. The President selects the Chairmen of the committees who in tum select the committee members. These individuals are responsible for the oversight of the operation of the Scottish Rite Foundation of Texas and through the Scottish Rite Foundation of Texas, the Lee Lockwood Texas Scottish Rite Library and Museum.
