About Me

Welcome to my Web site!

My name is Chris and I have been involved in Creative Problem Solving since 1999. Some people know me as the Prince of Balsa.

I am the youngest of 3 children and have been around Creative Problem Solving teams as long as I can remember. When I was five years old I would sit in the room when my older brother's team was working on structures and watch. They would give me pieces of wood to cut and glue as I watched them. In the 4th Grade my team tried the structure challenge for the first time. 2010 is my 9th straight year to compete in the structure challenge.

I am not what you would call a performer. I typically did most of the building and technical items for our teams and generally had very few lines. Since I did weight placement during the structure challenge there was not that much opportunity for me to have lines. I had a total of 7 lines in my team challenges from the 4th grade through the 11th grade. (Click to see the list.) As you can see, peforming has not been my strong point through all my years in Destination Imagination.

I really enjoy learning how to do new things. As early as I can remember my parents were always exposing me to any and everything that they thought was interesting. There have been times when we would see something displayed and then return to the house and try to figure out how to make what we had seen.

Through most of High School I mentored teams in structure and instant challenge. I really enjoy working with the younger DI teams and showing the things that I have learned. I have my share of struggles with school because I am dyslexic. DI has given me the tools that I needed to make it through school and through life. I hope to continue may participation at the University Level.

As I continue my particpation at the University Level I hope I am able to begin to give back more to the teams in my region.
