Unit 6: Value - Grayscale collage

Reflection

I really enjoyed this project because of your ability to create really interesting compositions with such little variation. I also really enjoy working in the achromatic/grey scale because color can not override the texture or subject. My favorite compositions are the triangle and rectangle versions because you can do so much more with the negative space. It is really hard to utilize the negative space well in the circle composition. I think my favorite composition with negative/positive space is the triangle version, but I think it lacks certain textures. The rectangle version has a variety of different textures which catch the viewers attention a bit more. In the triangle version especially, I worked with varying sizes. I think I could have used a larger range of sizes for both the rectangle and circle versions respectively. The differing values and sizes are extremely important in the circle version because of the softness of the shape. The circles in the top-right corner of my composition seem to blend together a bit, with hinders the composition. If I were to do this project again I would definitely work with a larger range of values and sizes, to ensure that the shapes are more pronounced. I think I could have utilized the negative space in the circle version in a more intriguing way, but I am very happy with how the overall pieces came out.
