Twitter.
As part of the learning process, I finally embraced the idea of learning through social media and created a Twitter account. Accounts I currently follow include, @ONEforTraining, Citrus College, Michelle Pacansky-Brock (@brocansky), OER Commons, Open Educational Resources (@OpenEduResource), and Dr.Rajiv Jhangiani (@thatpsychprof). Although I'm still familiarizing myself with the platform, I am confident that creating an account is a significant step in connecting with and learning from colleagues.
Faculty Learning Institute Group.
To foster continuing professional growth as well as student learning, I joined Citrus College's Faculty Learning Institute which is part of the College's Staff Development Program. The mission of Staff Development is to provide and coordinate professional development activities for employees through collegially planned learning opportunities that support student learning and the institution’s strategic goals. The Faculty Learning Institute group meets monthly.

Personal Development.
While professional development is a central component of effective online teachers' success, personal development is also a crucial component of being an effective online teacher. Like professional development, personal development is also a lifelong process. Research shows that personal development can improve mental health, increase self-awareness, enhance strengths, boost confidence, and improve quality of life.
In any given career, we find the importance and the need to compartmentalize work and personal life. However, sometimes, the line between work and personal life becomes blurry and things suddenly feel overwhelming. If neglected, the overwhelming feeling can create an internal pressure that leads to physiological and psychological distress which ultimately leads to decreased performance in work and personal life. Therefore, it's important to take time to ensure we have the tools and skills necessary that allow us to endure when we are overwhelmed.
As instructors, it's incumbent upon us to focus on personal development so that we can learn ways to release stress and pressure in ways that are healthy and not destructive to ourselves or others, especially our students. When we cultivate self-love and take the time we need to recharge, we put ourselves in a much better place to assist students and lead them to success.
Through yoga and meditation, I hope to continue achieving significant personal growth so that I can be the best version of myself for me and my students.
