LBCSCL
LBCSCL
The LBCSCL is the collection of the chess-playing high schools in Bucks and Montgomery counties in Pennsylvania. Our league which began in the 1960s seeks to promote the artistry and camaraderie of the game among high schoolers in our area. If you are a player, parent of a player, teacher, or administrator and want more information on how to bring LBCSCL to your school, please contact us.
LBCSCL
Our league brings together the chess-playing schools of Bucks and Montgomery Counties near Philadelphia in the spirit of competition and camaraderie. The LBCSCL schools play rounds of a tournament during the Winter Sports Schedule to name a champion, teach the students about competitive chess, and teach the life lessons that chess inherently brings.
We will be back in 2026-2027 with registration opening in October of 2026.
Here's the history of the league
The Tournament
In 2025-2026 we went away from school v. school play and switched to a Swiss System event. The event took place over two Saturdays in January and February. We plan to add a December date in 2026-27.
For those unfamiliar with a Swiss System Chess Tournament, please see this explanation.

Students who enroll will play 3 rounds on each day of the event. Players will accrue 1 point for a win, ½ point for a draw, and 0 points for a loss. There are no byes in this event. Players should note this fact before enrolling.
Teams will consist of between four and six players and one coach representing the school. Teams' scores will consist of the top four scores from a school. For example, if your team has six players, the bottom two scores will be ignored for team trophies.
