Adoption Process:
We are located in Jackson, Georgia.
We •DO• operate off a waitlist. I find this is the fairest way to make sure rats are placed on a first to inquire, first to adopt basis, as well as to best insure that we pair personalities with the appropriate homes!
~ We usually hold 3/4 spots for females, and 3/4 spots for males. People who have adopted from us previously get first pick of available babies, before anyone on our waitlist. Previous adopters are people who have been vetted and have already proven that they will give the best of homes to our babies, so they are given first consideration. After any previous adopters have been handled, all remaining rats will be offered to wait-listers. Once our wait list people have been taken care of, anything else still available will be posted on the page. We do have to right to refuse an adoption; for any reason....
So... previous adopters, wait list people, general public!
Well, how do I get on the wait list, you ask?! Good question! We have an adoption application pinned to this post. Once you’ve completed the app, you •MUST• contact the RATTERY! I don’t check applications unless I’ve gotten correspondence via email or messenger.
So... complete the application, contact the breeder, & enjoy baby pictures while you wait!
Wait, what? WAIT?!
~ Yep, enjoy the wait! Pairings are made with a purpose, and that purpose is in the fore front of our mind while we patiently wait on babies! We may be breeding for a certain coat, temperament, or even marking. That’s right, we breed for ourselves first!
~ Once babies are born, our job begins! We are checking mom and babies daily, as we watch the little ones grow! We start considering temperament at 3-4 weeks old, and officially start evaluating temperament at 30 days old. Our goal is to hold back the best temperament/coat/color for our future breeding purposes, and then evaluate who else in the litter might make an excellent pet. * This means that not all babies will be available, for a variety of reasons*. We continue temperament testing as the babies age, and begin placing them in homes at 8 weeks of age. No baby rat will go home earlier than 8 weeks old. Babies are always adopted out in groups (pairs, trios, or quads), no single rats leave our Rattery.
NEW: We will no longer be adopting out to homes with young children (<5 years old) unless you have spoken to us & have been approved. Owning rats requires proper hygiene and delicate handling. This policy will help us insure the health & safety of both your children & the rats we place in your home. I am always happy to answer any questions on this policy change, & appreciate everyone’s understanding!
I know you are all very excited; as are we! I appreciate your patience, and hope this information will help answer some questions! My inbox is always available to help!
