 repurposing scrap to be worn, spark joy and tell stories OF Growing up

As with traditional amulets and talismans these are emblems to protect, attract positivity, cherish and heal from memories, the meanings and messages are embedded within them through the finding and making process. Rather than traditional talismanic materials like bone, shell or plant, these are modern day charms made from the detritus of our throwaway society; artificial objects whose materials, ironically, are sourced from the earth and processed beyond being able to return to it. With their purposes obsolete they continue to exist - so let them be transformed and cared for again.

The idea behind this piece is the more of ourselves we give out the more we start to dissolve, but we can put ourselves back together again, a balance of input and output is possible.

This brooch is a reminder to make time for ourselves so that we don't dissolve.
