The Lawton Community Fire Department is a 100% volunteer fire and rescue department. The Lawton Community Fire Department serves the City of Lawton and the townships of Banner and Concord. Founded in 1911, the department has been serving and protecting 72 square miles for 109 years. Starting with a hand drawn hose cart and then finally upgrading to an engine powered 1934 engine. Today the fire and rescue department has grown to half a dozen apparatus to cover a range of emergencies. On average the Lawton Community Fire Department has between 20-30 men and women ready to act on a moment’s notice. Along with our own emergencies, the members of the department also perform controlled burns, fire safety education, and mutual aid assistance to neighboring communities.
In August of 2011, the department celebrated its 100th Anniversary. The department members organized an entire day of events that culminated with what many still describe today as the Lawton's best-ever Street Dance, held under a large big-top tent.
The day’s events began with the department’s Annual Pancake Breakfast, followed by firefighter games on West Creek Drive, including water fights and bucket brigade competitions. A firefighter parade began at 5:30 PM and brought together community members and visiting departments for the celebration.
The evening festivities featured the band , along with food trucks and entertainment for attendees of all ages. The association also partnered with the to operate the beer garden and present an outstanding fireworks display after dark.
The celebration was a tremendous success and created lasting memories for the community. Most importantly, it ensured that the department’s 100-year milestone was commemorated with an event that was both enjoyable and memorable for all ages. We thank you community for their continued support over the decades.
