For 27 years the members of the Lawton Firefighters Association Inc. have flipped pancakes and served breakfast foods for their only fundraiser of the year.
Anywhere between 750 to 900 people are served annually. The association donates this money back into the department through the purchasing of equipment, making this the largest annual fundraiser for the department. The breakfast is a great chance to check out all of the Lawton Community Fire Department apparatuses and equipment, as well as a firsthand look inside our station.
The 2026 Pancake Breakfast will take place on Saturday, September 19th from 6:00 AM to 10:30 AM at the fire station.
Every October the Lawton Community Fire Department teams up with Bronson Fire Department in Lawton and Bronson to educate the youth at the Lawton-Bronson Elementary School and Jr. Sr. High School about fire safety. The firefighters promote good habits and demonstrate the equipment to the students.
“Since 1922, the NFPA has sponsored the public observance of Fire Prevention Week. In 1925, President Calvin Coolidge proclaimed Fire Prevention Week a national observance, making it the longest-running public health observance in our country. During Fire Prevention Week, children, adults, and teachers learn how to stay safe in case of a fire. Firefighters provide lifesaving public education in an effort to drastically decrease casualties caused by fires.
Fire Prevention Week is observed each year during the week of October 9th in commemoration of the Great Chicago Fire, which began on October 8, 1871, and caused devastating damage. This horrific conflagration killed more than 250 people, left 100,000 homeless, destroyed more than 17,400 structures, and burned more than 2,000 acres of land.”

Once a month, the members of the department gather in the station to hold their monthly meetings.
Trainings are typically held on the last Wednesday of the month, with extra trainings frequently offered throughout the year. According to state of Iowa law, volunteer firefighters must complete a minimum od 24 hours of training a year, and many members of the Lawton Fire Community Department go above and beyond this total. Our professional volunteers are certified and/or trained in a variety of courses and/or disciplines to include National Certifications in Firefighter I & II, Hazardous Materials Awareness, Operations and Tech (Technician), Driver/Pump Ops with more specialized training courses in Vehicle Extrication, Rope Rescue, Ice Rescue, Trench Rescue, Confined Space along with several of the firefighters also holding EMS certifications to include EMT, AEMT & Paramedic licenses.
Over the years, LFD members have traveled across Northwest Iowa and the tri-state area to take part in firefighter waterfight contests. The goal is simple: using a team of three firefighters, hit the barrel with a stream of water from a fire nozzle and move it across the line. Bronson Fire Department holds an annual waterfight event, and in recent years it has been held at night under the lights. Fun is had by all, but the competition is fierce among department firefighters from across the region
