To evaluate the effectiveness of the Harmony Curriculum, we will use the Insights assessment. Insights is a web-based direct assessment tool designed to measure social skills that are commonly taught in evidence-based programs for students from kindergarten through grade 6.
The assessment is divided into two versions:
Insights Early Elementary (Insights EE):
Targeted for students in kindergarten through grade 3.
Takes approximately 30 minutes to complete.
Features developmentally appropriate pictures and scenarios, and is narrated aloud.
Available in both English and Spanish.
Insights Late Elementary (Insights LE):
Designed for students in grades 4 through 6.
Takes approximately 40 minutes to complete.
Includes more complex and nuanced tasks with developmentally appropriate pictures and scenarios.
Students can choose to read the content themselves or have it narrated aloud.
Available in both English and Spanish.
Teachers will receive a training on how to use Insights. In the fall and spring they will administer the appropriate version of the Insights assessment to their students. This will enable us to gather comprehensive data on how well the Harmony Curriculum supports the development of students' social, emotional, and academic skills.
The student data collected through the Insights assessment is owned by LAUSD. The Harmony research team will request access to class-level data from both the fall and spring administrations. This data will be utilized to analyze and evaluate the impact of the Harmony Curriculum on students' social, emotional, and academic development over time.
