APPLY! LausanneARTS+ UNMUTE Arts Challenge
"And if the bugle gives an indistinct sound, who will get ready for battle?" 1 Cor. 14:8 (ESV)
It's true, in the light of the revelation of God, the arts are not predicated merely on "WHAT IF?" alone; the arts are a radical and spontaneous outpouring in response to the immediacy and urgency of the WHEN and THEREFORE, in Christ, by the power of the Holy Spirit!
The question is, as a person who shares in supporting and shaping the larger creative economy of God, what is your role and contribution to be?
If you have not registered previously for any of the UNMUTE meetings, please sign up using the form below.
We’ve been thinking of how best we might together tackle and effectively respond to some of the global challenges facing us in the world in “such a time as this.” We’d like to invite you to consider exploring this opportunity together with!
Pick a design challenge from one of the issues: creation, justice, children, families, and work.
Put together a team that will collaborate regularly to address the issue in the light of biblical inspiration. An example of this is when an artist gets together with other artists, scholars, thinkers, etc., to reflect on the issue in the light of the Bible and thereby create the artwork.
We will host online spaces for us to collectively meditate and share on the themes in the light of the Word along with insights from fellow participants and guests.
Submit your proposed artwork via digital online format (picture, video, graphic design, etc.) along with the Artist Statement and/or accompanying material, if any, by January 15, 2024 to UNMUTE project at: uday@lausanne.org.
Artworks will be evaluated in the light of the ways they invite participation by others to meaningfully reflect upon, gain awareness, engage with key ideas and concepts, and act on the issue in the light of the biblical reality.
Artworks selected from submissions will be displayed via an online gallery, accessible by the global Lausanne community and networks.
All copyrights will remain that of the artists. LausanneARTS+ will reserve the rights to display content in one or all of the LausanneARTS+ related events/sites.
The artworks submitted for this online gallery may be used as part of the larger LausanneARTS 2024 to 2050 global vision. Selected works may be displayed at the upcoming Lausanne 2024 global gathering in Seoul, Korea.
Artists from this initial round of offerings will be eligible to participate in a second round of thematic submissions by collaborating with others to create new works or build upon current works and themes.
Applicants will be eligible to apply for some funding for the second phase, estimated dates Feb-May 2024.
The goal here is the process as much as it is the final product of the artworks.
Collaborate
This means that we seek to spark the creation of new spaces for artists to think and create in collaboration with others who bring critical insights and perspectives. We welcome and will give preference to collaborative works where artists work in a team to create a work of art. However, if you submit individual artworks, these too will be considered.
Curate
We hope that artful solutions are compelling and relevant for a given context. This means specificity and focus are key in engaging with Scripture and how it speaks to the issue for a given context or community.
It is helpful to think of the artworks as part of a larger process that generates either awareness and interest, a deeper desire to learn more, and ultimately inspires a call to action and or a shift/change in how people think, feel, value, or behave in relation to the issue at hand.
Celebrate
We hope these works will be used as part of the larger LausanneARTS+ vision to generate fresh content that engages the imagination of people conceptually as well as offers practical ways to help people take action and be part of the larger solution.
