What are the Sustainable Development Goals?
In 2015 the United Nations adopted unanimously a shared blueprint for peace and prosperity for people and the planet, now and into the future. At its heart are the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), which are an urgent call for action by all countries - developed and developing - in a global partnership. The SDGs recognize that ending poverty and other deprivations must go hand-in-hand with strategies that improve health and education, reduce inequality, and spur economic growth – all while tackling climate change and working to preserve our oceans and forests.
Think for a moment about yourself and what makes you happy. Make a list of 3-5 things that make you happy.
Now that you have made a list of what makes you happy, watch this student friendly video and see how many connections you can make to the SDGs. How many of the sustainable development goals do you feel affect your life and your happiness? Your household? Your community? Your state? Your country?
In hexagonal thinking, you connect terms and ideas through the sides of each hexagon. A hexagon has six sides, therefore each term could connect to up to six others. Use critical thinking to decide where the given terms best fit in the web of hexagons provided. Drag each term onto a hexagon in the position where it best fits within the web. You could connect any given term to several others, but be intentional with your placement. Make the most important connections your priority. You can even move the hexagons if you feel a term doesn’t need all six connections. Once you’ve decided where each concept should go, choose the most important connections to explain. In the slide following the web, write a paragraph explaining the connection between the terms. It might be a connection between several hexagons or just two. An example is provided.
