Contexts & Environments of Interest:
I am interested in working in a higher education context, where my learners would be undergraduate students, faculty, and staff at the institution. Since I am interested in and have experience designing for experiential and applied learning at the higher ed level, I would be interested in designing experiences related to practice-based learning (practicum, internships, study abroad), the applied sciences/STEM, and interdisciplinary academic programs. Along the same lines of working with faculty and staff in higher ed, I am also generally interested in workforce learning and professional development experiences for adult learners.
What I'm Interested in Doing:
Form trusting relationships with educators and students
Designing for them, designing with them, consulting with them
Help educators instruct better & help students learn better
And if not in an education setting, do this with any clients/stakeholders involved
Focus on learners' experience
Research for, design for, test with, and evaluate the learner's experience
Emphasize this as the ultimate impact vs. the technical aspects of the technology or tool being used
Balance creativity + innovation with reality + practicality
Demonstrate an open, accepting disposition when brainstorming, but make sure I can make things happen!
Looking to implement and follow through with projects. Follow-through is important because Learning Engineering is a cyclical process that involves iteration and improvement as systems interact with each other (what the "engineer" part of the term implies to me).
Help educators make informed decisions about technology and tools
Help them understand why they are making a decision about tech and who it’s really for (their learners!), not as a quick fix or a quick solution because it seems easy
Being informed by the learning sciences literature plays a prominent role here
Where new tech is involved, assist with the cultural transformation aspect of digital transformation
Think of it as digitally-inspired cultural transformation
Social issues are critical to address, as communities are the ones who adopt and change when new tech is introduced
