Research coordinator, Accounting area, 2001-2008; 2015-2016

I took responsibility for building a research-active accounting group after the National Research Assessment of 1993-2000 in which the group scored below expectations (2 out of 5 on productivity; 3 out of 5 on quality). At the end of my tenure, the accounting group was ranked as the top program in the Netherlands (and received 4.5 out of 5 on productivity and 4.5 out of 5 on quality). These scores, according to the evaluation criteria, implied that the research conducted by the group was “world class”.

Ph.D. program coordinator and founding chair, Accounting area, 2001-2008; 2013-2016

I designed the accounting track in the Ph.D. in Business program at Tilburg University and was the (founding) chair during its first 8 years. Duties involved the development of a two-year coursework program (including four specialized accounting courses) and a mentoring/supervision system for the dissertation phase. Tilburg was among the very first schools in Europe to have a US style Ph.D. program, with formal coursework. Initial placement of the first graduates from this program include University of Chicago, University of Michigan, and University of Texas-Austin.
