As part of the festivities, NBC will be broadcasting a week of television specials live from Universal Studios!
The fun begins the first Monday of the festival, as The Tonight Show starring Jimmy Fallon is broadcast live from a temporary stage just outside the main entrance of Universal Studios! Jimmy will host five shows featuring The “Legendary” Roots Band, special interviews with a host of A-list stars, and a new musical guest every night! Space is very limited and park guests will be admitted on a first come first serve basis.
Then, the action heats up as WWE presents Saturday Night’s Main Event! This quarterly pro-wrestling special typically emanates from arenas across the country. But for one very special night, the world leader in sports-entertainment brings their brand of pro-wrestling to Universal Studios to close out NBC Live. For this event, a unique temporary “arena” is constructed of mobile bleachers, allowing 4500 fans to take part in this historic event!
Based on the hit Peacock reality show, Traitors Live will be hosted in the Fear Factor theater. This show will mix a live host, audience participation, and pre-recorded sections from Alan (host of the show) as well as other NBC/Peacock stars.
The contestants will be guests who sign up earlier in the day and get prepped on the rules before going on stage. The gameplay of Traitors is similar to games like Mafia or Among Us where most of the players are "Faithfuls" but a few are secret "Traitors." The players do challenges to raise the max prize available to win (Generally these will be merch or free Express passes but could go as high as gift cards or free Peacock memberships). If the Faithfuls can vote out the traitors before the show ends, they win the prizes! If any traitors make it to the end, the traitors win the prizes!
Important to note: the max prize for the faithful goes up based on how well the players do in the challenges. The max prize for traitors goes up when players do worse. So, the traitors have to sabotage the group, but do so without getting caught because then they'd be voted out!
There will be a live host to keep things moving, but frequent pre-recorded segments from Alan will help bring his style and flair to the show. For the challenges, each one will be introduced by a pre-recorded video from an NBC cast and the challenge itself will be themed to their show.
There will be 2 shows a night. 8 contestants for each show. They will start with a vote to eliminate someone, do a challenge, vote 2, challenge 2, vote 3, challenge 3, and then a final vote!
As part of this celebration, USF’s New York area has been transformed into a Seinfeldian wonderland equivalent to one of HHN’s famous Scare Zones! Two now-abandoned cars (with the engines still running, if you listen carefully) are gridlocked into one spot. Out of a second story window hangs a length of fishing line, with the elusive marble rye attached to the end. A rickshaw leans on the curb, and if you step on a specific, recently paved spot in the street, a tiny, tinned voice hollers “HOLY COW!”. If you peer into street-level windows, you might see a puffy shirt, or an open briefcase full of packaged crackers. Picking up the receiver of an outdoor payphone allows you to listen to Kramer’s moviefone spiel, or George’s “The Greatest American Hero” ringtone. And that’s only scratching the surface!
The real highlight of this “Comedy Zone”, the part that is exclusive to the event itself, is the veritable character invasion that appears in this area after dark. Each character is convincingly and accurately portrayed, whether engaging with guests, playing off of one another, or simply wandering in the background. In-character improvisation is always encouraged, making for some unique, hilarious, and sure-to-be-popular moments. Puddy tromps about in his Devils gear, deadpanning non-sequiturs. J. Peterman will, whether asked or not, recount outrageous stories of his exploits abroad. Newman and Kramer scurry about the street, enlisting guests to aid them in some nonsensical scheme or another - Kramer jitters around, while Newman monologues malevolently. Crazy Joe Davola talks and acts incredibly creepily, though it never gets out of hand. Uncle Leo is always happy to greet guests with an uncomfortable “HELLO!”, while a man looking eerily like Larry David lurks in the alley, wearing a suit and a long superhero cape. If guests try to talk to him, or ask who he is, his response is always the same: “I’m Frank Costanza’s lawyer”.
Whether long-time fans of the show or uninitiated, the incredible assortment of kooky characters down Seinfeld Street are sure to charm and crack up guests. After all, a great scare zone doesn’t rely on knowledge of the IP, so why should a Comedy Zone?
Guests will get the chance to step into the leading role of their own crime/mystery show inspired by NBC/Peacock classics.
The streets of San Francisco becomes filled with clues, crime scenes, set pieces, red herrings, and pineapples (Shawn and Gus from Psych never go anywhere without them). There are 4 different mysteries to solve and guests can go around looking for the mixed up clues, solving riddles, and piecing it all together.
Luckily, guests aren't on their own. Some of the best tv detectives of all time are there to help! Actors playing characters from Poker Face, Psych, Monk, Law & Order, Columbo, and Chicago PD will be wandering trying to solve these mysteries themselves. They might just stop you to ask a few questions so make sure you don't lie to Charlie Cale since they can always tell when someone is sharing bullcrap. It will be a very fun and interactive experience unlike any other at Universal. Almost working like an escape room with all the puzzles spread out throughout the land mixed with live entertainment.
Oh, just one more thing... The answers to the mysteries can be found in the app and more detailed clues can be found by answering answers to riddles in the Universal app. That way you know if you have the answer right or not.
Alf and Triumph the Insult Comic Dog are the Star attractions of an interactive puppet show held within the facade streets of San Francisco. Every night the two main hosts will be out through the entire event, roasting guests and each other. Throughout the night if you catch the ever rotating cast at the right time, you might catch some of the following "Celebrity cameos".
-Bill Murray Garfield, who Alf desperately wants to eat
-Chucky, who tries to use his stage time to turn NBC Late Nights into an HHN event
-Donkey as the celebrity version of himself as seen in NBC's animated sitcom Father of the Pride. Reuses the regular Donkey puppet just with sunglasses and the performer giving the character an inflated ego.
- JennyAnnyDots from Tom Hooper's "Cats", who's just desperate for any sort of stage time after her movie flopped. (Full body (Sweetums style suit)
The grand finale to a night spent with NBC is this breathtaking extravaganza. Instead of the clip show that might be expected from this kind of event, the Spectaculathon uses NBC to show the history of digital entertainment, from the radio to the television.
The show, which utilizes the existing USF fireworks setup, features drones, fireworks, and projections to deliver its theme. No new infrastructure is necessary, and it can easily be converted back to normal programming once Late Nights have concluded.
The show is divided into three distinct acts: the birth of the radio, the growth of TV, and the modern age of entertainment. NBC is present throughout each segment, whether explicitly named by our narrator’s deep, booming voice, or as the primary leitmotif in this show’s original orchestral score (enn-bee-see!). Each segment can be identified by the primary kind of entertainment technology utilized. For example, the radio section heavily utilizes drones, positioning to represent electromagnetic waves in motion, while TV is projection heavy, with both water and facades as mediums for famous and important scenes from NBC’s early television library. Finally, in the grand finale, both technologies are combined with fireworks to create a grand, show-stopping display. As a bombastic end to the night, the NBC Spectaculathon provides everything an entertainment buff could want!
