Sloan Canyon National Conservation Area is found on the southeast edge of the Las Vegas Valley, bordering the south edge of Henderson, and includes the black volcanic mountains and ridges that can be seen from many parts of town. It is a National Conservation Area (NCA) administered by the United States Bureau of Land Management. It includes the Sloan Petroglyph which was listed on the National Register of Historic Places on December 19, 1978. It lies south of Las Vegas, Nevada
Sloan Canyon NCA supplies peace and solitude for hikers checking out the geologic features and cultural resources. The landscape ranges from the lowland edge of a dry lake to volcanic peaks exceeding 5,000 feet in elevation. The location is best known for the Sloan Canyon Archaeological District (Petroglyph Canyon), one of the most essential Native American cultural websites in Southern Nevada. More than 300 rock art panels with 1,650 plus specific petroglyphs were developed by native artists from the Archaic to the historical era.

Nawghaw Poa Roadway, and the contact station, are open 8-4:30 Friday-Sunday throughout summertime and open 8-4:30 all week throughout winter. Call (702) 515-5350 to validate that the roadway is open. The rest of the location is always open.
