USE OF FORCE

FORCE IS TO BE USED IN DIFFERENT WAYS

FORCE CAN BE USED IF SOMEBODY IS IN DESTRESS

IT CAN ALSO BE USED TO DETAIN A SUBJECT

FORCE CAN BE USED IN VEHICLES SUCH AS TACTICAL CONTACT IN PURSUITS

FORMS OF FORCE

Verbal - Giving commands, shouting, yelling or threatening

Phyiscal - Tackling, Restraining, Pushing

Less than Lethal - Taser, Baton, Pepper Spray, Bean Bag Shotgun

Lethal Force - Pistol, Shotgun, Rifle

NECCESARY FORCE

VERBAL - To be used if somebody is not complying

Physical - If somebody is resisting or being an imminent threat

Less Than Lethal - If somebody is posing a serious threat but isn't armed with a lethal weapon or if they are constantly resisting

Lethal Force - If somebody is posing a deadly threat towards officers, civilians or is a posable threat to officers or civilians lives.

MISUSE OF FORCE

If an officer misuses force it could include consequences such as department warnings, department strikes or even termination from the department.

In serious cases of misuse of force legal action may be taken which could include prison time, serious fines or more sanctions towards the officer.

In some cases officers will take unpaid or paid leave while a situation is resolved.
