Annual Volunteer Opportunities

The following opportunities are available every year.

These are coordinator-level position descriptions; one-time volunteer opportunities can be found during the school year here.

Classroom & Teacher Support Chair Positions

Giving Tree Wish List Coordinator

  • Update and support online teacher wish lists. Coordinate LASA purchase of outstanding items at end of the fiscal year.

Room Parent Coordinator Chair - Needed for 2023-2024 School Year

  • Oversee room parents for all grades

  • Recruit room parents for each class

  • Communicate budgets and expectations to room parents

  • Liaison between LASA and room parents

Room Parent

  • Take direction from the LASA Room Parent Coordinator Chair and your classroom Teacher

  • Communicate with the teacher and parents via email on behalf of LA and LASA. Please note, you will be directed to send several emails at the start of the school year. However, they will decrease as we ease into the year.

  • Run your classroom game/booth at Fall Festival in October or find parent volunteers to share time slots.

  • Plan classroom parties with specific budgets from LASA and coordinate classroom volunteers as needed. Parties include, but are not limited to, History Day, Winter Holiday, Valentine's Day, and End of Year/Field Day. There could be more events/parties during the year that your teacher may ask you to coordinate that is specific to the grade or classroom.

  • Communicate the daily theme for Teacher Appreciation Week to parents.

  • Plan an informal class parent get-together outside of school to facilitate community building.

  • Various other coordinating or tasks to assist the teacher or communicate with parents.

  • Attend LASA meetings so that you stay in the know about activities and events happening in the school community (optional).

  • This position requires easy and consistent access to your email and the ability to be available for communications from the LASA Room Parent Coordinator and your partner Room Parent for a successful team effort.

Teacher Appreciation Chair and Committee - HELP NEEDED, May

  • Provide dinner for teachers during evening parent-teacher conferences using committee members to help bring food.

  • Coordinate school-wide Teacher Appreciation Week in the spring, creating a theme for each day

  • Coordinate events such as a parent-provided breakfast, catering for teachers, reminders to families for handwritten cards, etc. and anything creative that is within the budget

School Office Support

Lunch Room Volunteers Coordinator

  • Help coordinate e-signup of parent volunteers to help in the lunchroom on a daily basis

  • Initiate email reminders when help is insufficient

Parent & Community Support

New Families Chairperson - HELP NEEDED, Summer/Early Fall commitment

  • Help coordinate the kindergarten welcome picnic in the summer and the Coffee and Kleenex event on the first day of Kindergarten

  • Coordinate LASA Ambassadors to email all new families

  • Attend some summer uniform sales events, the back-to-school party (Pirate's Cove), and the registration event prepared to assist new families with questions

  • Attend the Kindergarten Information Night and parent school tours to assist the office as needed and provide opportunities for parent-to-parent Q/A

Caring & Sharing Coordinator (Philanthropist)

  • Promotes these values and draws attention to opportunities such as coat drives, food drives, disaster relief, etc. that are appropriate for student participation

LPS Joint Scholarship Representative

  • Attend quarterly meetings on behalf of LA in order to communicate deadlines and opportunities for teacher scholarships back to LA's teachers

Grant Writing Committee

  • Team of people to research and pursue possible relevant grant opportunities for LA; past examples include the Greenhouse initiative and a corporate match for the 1:1 Technology initiative

Box Tops Coordinator

  • Coordinate team to collect Box Tops and submit according to contest rules; communicate program deadlines and opportunities to the community

School Supply Order Coordinator

  • Coordinate with LA teachers to get their recommended supply lists and work with a supplier of prepacked school supplies for interested families (suppliers give a portion of proceeds back to LASA)

Community Events

Back to School Bash Committee - HELP NEEDED, Summer Commitment

  • Assist the LASA Event Director with planning a back-to-school event within the annual budget before school starts to welcome new families and reconnect with friends as the school year begins. Help create e-signups, and coordinate with food trucks and/or the Baking Committee.

Fall Festival Chair and Committee

  • Help a team plan the Fall Festival event by coordinating with the Room Parent Chair and Room Parents to plan and run a game for each classroom. Festival Chair and committee will procure bounce houses and/or other activities, food trucks, or other food options within the annual budget and coordinate with the Baking Committee Chair. This event is held in October as a thank you and celebration for our community after our big fall fundraiser.

Girls' Gala Dance Chair and Committee - CHAIR NEEDED, February

  • Team of people to plan this annual event for the girls and a special adult in her life. Includes decorating the gym, procuring a DJ, photo booth, food, and any other creative additions within the annual budget. This event is usually held in February.

Boys' Bash Chair and Committee - CHAIR + VOLUNTEERS NEEDED, February/March

  • Team of people to plan this annual event (has been a hike, party in the gym, dart wars, or any other creative event or outing within the annual budget) for the boys and a special adult in their life. This event is usually held in March.

Student-Centered Activities & Support

Field Day Coordinator and Committee

  • Help coordinate signups for parent volunteers to work at the event, communicate with PE teacher, help arrange for any treat or lunch needs as needed

Spring Fling/Art Show/Music Festival Volunteers/Committee - HELP NEEDED

  • Work with the Art teacher to put on event; coordinate parent volunteers to hang art, provide treats, etc.
