Hi! My name is Viktor. I am the founder of Lark audio.
Ever since I was a child I’ve loved two things - music and electronics.
It all started in school when I made various acoustic systems and musical instruments in the attic of my house with my father’s small set of carpentry tools. At that time it was more of a childhood game, however it made me learn basic electronics, carpentry and metalworking.
When I got my first PC in high school I began studying computer audio recording. At that time I had access to a lot of popular software: Guitar Pro, FL Studio, Sound Forge, Adobe Audition and others.
That was also the time when I learned to play the guitar and bass guitar and performed in various school rock bands.
2008-2013 - University years
During my university years I’ve continued to explore the possibilities of electronics (electrification and automatisation were my major).
I’ve studied various electrical engineering disciplines, CAD/CAM software, programming and more. It was also the time I built my first guitar pedals and hi-fi transistor amplifiers. They were far from perfect, but were functional and sounded good. This inspired me to keep going.
As a student I worked part-time in bars and restaurants playing electric guitar with different bands. This allowed me to field test my devices and improve them.
As time passed I’ve not abandoned my interest in sound recording. I got my first pro-grade audio interface, good speakers for listening and working (which I restored and modified). My friends used to bring various electronics for me to repair, helping me to accumulate experience and expand my knowledge in the field of sound and electronics.
After graduating from the university I worked as an electromechanical technician at a print factory, dedicating all of my free time to music and electronics. In 2014 I made a small bunch of devices branded “V Large LAB”. They ended up in the pedal-boards of my friends and acquaintances.
Around this time I also began experimenting with building the simplest tube amplifiers. My university teacher helped me take the first steps in tube technology. Later we became friends sharing our love of electronics. He gave me a lot of useful advices, allowed me to work in his workshop and shared various radio components.
A couple years later I saved up some money, quit my job at the print factory and rented a small space which I set up as a workshop where I would construct and repair audio equipment. I spent a lot of time learning and experimenting, experiencing both successes and failures. Despite the lack of experience in design and marketing coupled with the realities of our small market I was able to create my first decent tube gear.
2016-2020 - Switching the focus
A year later I moved house and got a new job at a СNC machines and equipment manufacturing company. I was still interested in making electronics, so I’ve continued doing small custom projects for musicians.
We made a wonderful collaboration with Electric Vibes, producing a batch of 30 fuzz pedals. The model turned out to be well-liked by many musicians.
Eventually I got into the sound recording and studio equipment, diving deep into the topic and constructing my first studio equipment. I also built a small recording studio to really put my creations through their paces.
2020-2022 - COVID and after
During the pandemic while my main job was closed I’ve continued the experiments with equipment and built guitar cabinets and amplifiers for my studio. While the police were patrolling the streets, I lived at work.
One day at a flea market I came across a pair of VU meters from a British console branded Sifam and for the first time decided to make 1176s on my own. This compressor turned out very good!
Initially I used the name AUDIO ADDICTION, making around a dozen devices and prototypes under this brand, most of which were sold. Then I came up with a different, shorter name. My good friend helped with the logo and design of the devices — and that’s how Lark Audio came to be!
So, if you see a device branded:
VLarge
Royal Blood
Electric Vibes
L-LAB
AUDIO ADDICTION
LARK
know that I was it’s creator.
