Sheila Larang Whittle has dedicated her career to serving at-risk and vulnerable populations. After teaching Special Education and English Language Arts (ELA) in Title I middle schools—where she was recognized as Teacher of the Year—Sheila transitioned into nonprofit work, focusing on combating human trafficking.
In the Greater Houston Area, Sheila worked directly with survivors of child sex trafficking, helping them access education, social services, recovery programs, and employment opportunities. She developed and led support groups, wellness activities, and a job program aimed at equipping survivors with essential life and professional skills to support their healing and long-term success. Additionally, she facilitated leadership workshops for youth in the Texas Juvenile Justice Department.
Sheila expanded her anti-trafficking work internationally in Phnom Penh, Cambodia, where she supported men, women, and transgender individuals who experienced human trafficking or were transitioning from the sex industry. She oversaw the operations of a Visitor Centre, which included a café, retail store, and women’s spa, while delivering customer service training tailored to international clientele and providing life skills support.
In addition to direct service work, Sheila designed and developed prevention curricula on human trafficking for middle and high school students. She also offers training to a wide range of audiences, including schools, government agencies, businesses, and community organizations. Because of her expertise and advocacy, she has been interviewed on radio, television, and social media.
As the Owner and Founder of Larang Consulting & Design LLC, Sheila creates and facilitates trauma-informed training for caregivers and direct service providers.
Sheila holds an M.Ed. in Neuroscience and Trauma from Tabor College, a B.S.E. in Special Education and English from Seton Hall University, a Nonprofit Management Certificate from The University of Texas at Austin, a Trust-Based Relational Intervention (TBRI) 101 Certificate from the Karyn Purvis Institute of Child Development, and a Trauma-Informed Coach Certificate from The Centre for Healing.
In her free time, Sheila enjoys traveling and spending time with her husband and two dogs.
