Job’s Daughters International is grounded in a strong tradition of leadership and service. Established in 1920, the organization was created to provide an opportunity for young women to work together, to learn about themselves, and to contribute meaningfully to their communities. For over 100 years, Job’s Daughters has remained committed to fostering strong friendships, personal development, and a spirit of service.
Job's Daughters was founded in Omaha, Nebraska by Ethel T. Wead Mick, alongside her husband, Dr. William H. Mick, who was an active Mason. The organization takes its name from the Book of Job, and in particular to a reference in the 42nd Chapter that says, “And in all the land were no women found so fair as the Daughters of Job.”
Meetings are conducted with a sense of tradition and structure. Officers wear symbolic Grecian robes, representing democracy and equality, provided by their Bethel, while members dress in formal attire. Gatherings are largely planned and led by the members themselves, with guidance and support from dedicated adult volunteers.
Interested in joining Job's Daughters?
Becoming a member of Job’s Daughters is a welcoming and respectful experience. The initiation is a thoughtful and meaningful ceremony conducted by Bethel Officers, designed to be dignified rather than intimidating. Parents are welcome to attend initiations as well as all meetings.
To be a member of Job’s Daughters is to be part of a group that promotes friendship among young women and confidence in themselves. As a member you will learn skills that will help you throughout your life, and you will become part of an organization that serves the community. Most importantly, you will have fun.
Job’s Daughters is open to girls ages 10 to 20 who have a Masonic Relationship, through either a relative or sponsorship. While the organization is not affiliated with any specific religion, members are required to have a belief in God.
