The Order of the Eastern Star is a worldwide fraternal, non-profit, charitable service organization with dedicated members who are making a positive difference in their local communities and ultimately, the world. Established in the mid-19th century by Dr. Rob Morris, a Master Mason and Poet Laureate of Masonry, with the support of his wife, Charlotte Mendenhall Morris, the Order of the Eastern Star was created to extend the moral and philosophical principles of Freemasonry to women. Recognizing that the traditions of Freemasonry did not permit female membership, Dr. Morris developed a complementary organization through which women could share in its values and ideals, fostering a family-oriented approach to Masonic teachings.
Alpha Chapter #1, Order of the Eastern Star, was chartered on April 3, 1896 by the General Grand Chapter, and Snowy Range Chapter #45 was chartered on August 31, 1939 by the Grand Chapter of Wyoming; the two chapters later consolidated.
