2021 – present Scientist I, Behavioral, Epidemiological, and Clinical Sciences, FHI 360, Durham, NC
Designs and implements mixed methods studies covering several thematic areas, including family planning, HIV, and other infectious diseases. For exampling, currently leading a study to measure the scale, reach, quality, and cost of service delivery high impact practices (HIPs) for family planning under the Research for Sustainable Solutions (R4S) project. With the Health Systems Strengthening and HIV Services (HS3) project, designing a pilot study to assess the feasibility and acceptability of HIV self-testing in the Dominican Republic.
2017 – 2021 Associate Scientist, Behavioral, Epidemiological, and Clinical Sciences, FHI 360, Durham, NC
Under the Accelerating Strategies for Practical Innovation and Research in Economic Strengthening (ASPIRES) project, designed and implemented a study describing the financial lives of women in prevention of mother-to-child-transmission care in Malawi and a study assessing the effect of savings group participation on adherence to ART and retention in care in Mozambique. Conducted formative research to understand sequencing and benchmarks for orphans and vulnerable children program graduation. With the AVAC Coalition to Accelerate and Support Prevention Research (CASPR), conducted a systematic review of gender in clinical HIV prevention trials.
2014 – 2016 Doctoral Candidate, Health Policy & Management, University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill
Conducted a systematic review examining the effect of integrated microfinance and health interventions. Estimated the effect of microfinance and health education on client reported revenue and profit using data from cluster-randomized trial in Benin. Created measure of empowerment and examined how empowerment influenced program effect. Conducted and analyzed in-depth interviews on women’s empowerment in four regions in Benin.
2013 – 2014, 2016 Graduate Research Fellow, MEASURE Evaluation, Chapel Hill, NC
Assisted with the design and management of an impact evaluation of a gender-integrated intervention for health facility operations and management committees in Nepal. Designed various quantitative and qualitative data collection tools; coordinated with local research teams; and oversaw baseline quantitative and qualitative data training activities in Pokhara, Nepal. Created a sample monitoring and evaluation of scale-up strategy for the gender-integrated intervention in Nepal. Also, wrote a systematic review on rigor of evaluations of gender-integrated health programs in South Asia and analyzed literature on measures of reproductive empowerment.
2012 – 2013 Afghanistan National Health Accounts (NHA) Consultant, Health Policy Project, Futures Group, Kabul, Afghanistan & Chapel Hill, NC
Facilitated NHA Production Tool training in Bangkok, Thailand for members of Afghanistan’s Health Economics and Financing Directorate. Conducted reproductive health subaccount training in Kabul, Afghanistan and assisted with overall tracking and reporting of total health expenditure.
2012 – 2013 Public Health Leader, Honduran Health Alliance, Chapel Hill, NC & El Corpus, Honduras
Coordinated and managed University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill student-run alliance offering reproductive health education, family planning services, and cervical cancer screening to underserved women near El Corpus, Honduras. In North Carolina, facilitated a semester-long class for medical students, created health education materials, and formed a steering committee to foster sustainability and greater collaboration between partners. In Honduras, reinforced community partnerships, researched pathways to cervical cancer care, and oversaw screening clinic activities.
2010 – 2012 Analyst, Health Systems 20/20 Project, Abt Associates, Inc., Bethesda, MD
Conducted National Health Accounts (NHA), which included estimating total health expenditure and sub-account spending in Malawi and Botswana. Led data analysis capacity building workshops with country teams, facilitated data analysis process, and contributed to technical report writing and dissemination of findings. Worked with software programmer to develop the NHA Production Tool (NHAPT), created workshop materials, and facilitated a NHAPT training workshop for the Ministry of Health in Liberia. Co-coordinated Health Systems 20/20’s NHA portfolio by establishing work plans, monitoring activities, budget tracking, and providing management support.
2009 – 2010 Assistant Director of the Health Portfolio, Princeton in Latin America Fellow, ProWorld Peru, Urubamba, Peru
Collaborated with community leaders to develop and facilitate health projects and medical campaigns in low resource, alto-andino communities. Led data collection and analysis for a study assessing the efficacy of homemade ceramic water filters.
