With the launch of Starfinder 2e, Starfinder Society is rethinking how Organized Play will work. Learn more about this year's adventures and see what's new from PFS 2e play.
Starfinder Society 2e kicks off with an exciting storyline that places PCs at the center of one of the galaxy's biggest burgeoning crises—a potential invasion from the First Ones, an ancient civilization with planet-killing weapons and ambitions. While excavating an ancient city founded by the First Ones, Starfinder Agents were attacked by a group of cultists who planned to overthrow the local government so the First Ones could return to the Pact Worlds and take their places as rulers.
The agents defeated the cultists, but not before one of them sent off a transmission to the First Ones. Now, First Seeker Sarmak, the leader of the Starfinder Society, believes the First Ones heeded the call to return. His suspicions were heightened when a mysterious spaceship appeared over the planet Akiton, then crashed into it. The wreck spawned dangerous monsters and magic in the surrounding area.
First Speaker Sarmak established a Starfinder lodge in the Sloughscar Hills, near the crash site, to investigate whether the incident is linked to the First Ones. Expect mission to explore the Wreck of the Returned alongside other galactic mysteries!
As you play Starfinder Society, you'll encounter a few rules and standards that are different from those we use In Pathfinder Society. The core ruleset is the same, as are the code of conduct and player expectations. However...
Starfinder Society scenarios are shorter, designed to be played in 2-3 hours each.
Starfinder Society 2e scenarios are written for a 2-level range instead of a 4-level range.
All Starfinder Society 2e scenarios are repeatable.
The reward structure has changed. Each scenario will grant 4 XP and a set amount of credits (no more treasure bundles!). Many scenarios also grant boons that give you access to unique items or other character options.
Starfinder Society characters may begin at 1st, 3rd, or 5th level. (Pre-gens will also still be available.)
Starfinder Society will not have factions.
Character options are less restrictive; for the most part, only Unique Items are disallowed. (Source ownership is still required for options outside of core sources.)
Starfinder Society adventures will not go beyond 10th level.
GMs can also expect some differences as they prepare for and run Starfinder Society 2e scenarios.
Encounter scaling is simplified. Combats are designed for 6 lower-level characters, with an Easier or Harder adjustment. It's recommended to talk to your players and see what type of experience they want when deciding how to adjust combats.
Appendices have been removed. Creature statblocks that are available in another Starfinder product (and Archives of Nethys) will not be reprinted in a scenario.
