During your POCR review, our LAPC faculty review team enters your online course and uses a collaborative Course Design Tracker, based on the CVC-OEI Course Design Rubric as the standard for a high-quality online class. The review team thoroughly inspects your course and notes if each course design element is incomplete, aligned, or exemplary. In order for the course to be POCR Certified, every element must be aligned or exemplary.
Don't feel quite ready? Don't worry! We provide many resources to help you get your course ready, including a comprehensive "Pierce POCR Prep Course." For more details, see How Do I Start POCR?
Participation in POCR is not required for LAPC online faculty.
All LACCD DE-certified faculty are invited to participate, including full-time and adjunct faculty members.
At this time, we are only able to review asynchronous online courses.
Faculty may submit one online course per semester, pending funding and course readiness.
POCR can be a laborious, yet highly beneficial, process. An online course that is already aligned with the majority of elements in the Course Design Rubric will complete the POCR process faster compared to a course with numerous incomplete items. Thus, there is no one-size-fits-all timeline for completing POCR. However, we do require that some expected timeline is agreed upon between reviewers and course submitters. Generally, we expect faculty who commit to the process to fully align their online course by the end of the semester in which they begin.
Request a MasterShell from the POCR Lead (Heather Kokorowski: kokorohd@laccd.edu). You will then be invited to our "Pierce POCR Prep Course."
A successful review process begins with solid instructor preparation.
The "Pierce POCR Prep Course" includes video tutorials and recorded webinars that will familiarize you with the components that are required in a "quality-reviewed" course, including accessibility. The prep course will take about 3-5 hours to complete.
The prep course will prompt you to complete a Course Review Prep Form. The Course Review Prep Form is an abbreviated version of the full OEI Course Design Rubric aimed at helping you prepare for a smooth and successful review.
Once you have completed the "POCR Prep Course" in Canvas, including submitting your completed Course Review Prep Form, our POCR Lead will conduct a preliminary check of your course to assure it meets all requirements for POCR.
If the preliminary check suggests that the course is not very close to alignment, the submitting faculty will be referred to support resources to revise, update, and redesign their course, to potentially submit to POCR the following semester.
If the preliminary check suggests that the course is close to alignment, the course will be accepted to POCR and will be assigned to a POCR team for course review.
Your POCR review team will conduct your official POCR Review. They will complete a Course Review Tracking Sheet that will provide feedback and indicate any incomplete items that need your attention. They will then meet with you via Zoom to go over the results of your review.
Unleash your creativity as you implement the reviewers' feedback! You will continue to work with your POCR review team until all items are aligned.
The timeline for revisions will vary, depending on the results of your review, but please take no longer than 4 weeks to address all incomplete items.
Communicate with your POCR review team with any questions, and touch base at least once a week about your progress.
Final alignment will be confirmed by the POCR Lead, who will work with you as needed to address any remaining details.
Your course will be submitted to CVC for final badging!
