In this piece, I used the sound design software, logic, to add and create sound effects over a silent short video provided by my sound design teacher.
This project was my first ever experience adding sound over a silent film. although it was challenging to find fitting sounds for each part of the film, I found it very enjoyable to experiment with different sounds to find something that was fitting for the video. A key take away that I learned from this project was the importance of stacking different sound effects on top of each other to achieve the specific sound you aim to create. For example, in this project I stacked various sound effects to achieve the sound of the rocket ship taking off. This wasn't an easy task as I was only able to use the limited sounds available on freesound.org. Additionally, I had to improvise what sounds effects I wanted to use by using the instruments available on logic to simulate the noise we think certain objects can make. For example, I used a piano key for each time the lights on the video turned on and off. Overall, I had a lot of fun doing the sound design on this video clip and I gained a lot of sound editing knowledge while making this project.
