In this story, a young girl named Chelsea who grew up with her grandmother are in charge of keeping the juju mask safe. using the powers of the juju mask, their task is to travel to the spiritual realm and keep things in order. chelsea's grandmother is her mentor and she teaches her the ways to master the powers of the juju masks as spirits in the spiritual realm are sometimes malevolent. The story begins showing chelsea's grandmother in a critical state after what seems to be an accident that happened in the spiritual realm. Chelsea know her duty as a juju mask keeper and must save her grandmother from dying.
I printed out the comic pages and made a book using the Japanese bookbinding technique. additionally, I drew the images digitally on clipstudiopaint.
CC-10 Origins is a zine that explores the origin story of the main character from a pixel art video game I created in high school. cc-10 is the code name of the main character in this story. in this zine, the story starts off showing cc-10 as a normal girl going fishing on the coast of an island with her parents. after cc-10 successfully catches a fish, she realizes her parents have turned into zombies because of an intoxicating green gas in the air. Shocked and scared she backs away from her parents but (fortunately) falls into the ocean. Although she escapes, cc-10 has inhaled some of the zombie turning gas, but she isn't fully transformed, and she becomes half zombie half human.
i printed out the images i drew digitally on clipstudiopaint and I made it into a zine.
"The final judgement" is a story based on Egyptian mythology. According to Egyptian mythology, after death, everyone has to pass through the Hall of judgement, where a person's heart is weighted on a scale against Ma'at's (the goddess of justice) feather of the truth. If the deceased person's heart is balanced with Ma'at's feather, they can continue their journey into the afterlife; if not their journey ends. In this story, Seth the God war has to face the hall of judgement for the crimes he has committed against humanity. Will his heart balance with the feather of truth or will he perish in duat (the underworld) for eternity?
I used watercolor paper to create this artist book. I bookbinded this book in a way that fit the Egyptian aesthetic of the story. Finally, I used watercolors and ink to draw the images and write the text in this artist book.
Our stories is a combination of stories that was made to bring light to the discrimination immigrants experience when coming into a new country (especially people of color). This comic strip is the part of the story I created. The script and images were drawn by me digitally in ClipstudioPaint. The full story of our stories was made for an Arts-Based Research for a Concordia student (Natasha Doyon).
