Soubs is a race-to-finish board game in which 3 aspiring cooks move around a board and gather ingredients to complete their individual soup recipes.
Soubs is highly inspired from Board games like snakes and ladders but my team and I created our own spin to it.
when my team and I were thinking about a board game to make, I immediately had the idea to make the game food based and we all agreed to make it about soup!
The characters in the game were not inspired by anything in particular bUT the only thing that linked them together was their burning desire to complete their soup recipe and win the soup making race.
Just like Snakes and ladders, Soubs is a turn Based game, so we used similar materials to create the game.
I was in charge of 3d printing the tokens the players would pick up to use as their soup ingredients as well as drawing the soup recipe cards and the drawing and designing the rule book.
I was also in charge of creating dynamic game mechanics such as character abilities with the help and feedback of my teammates.
my second teammate provided the die for the players to roll and also drew the soup ingredients that i cut out and pasted on tokens.
Lastly, my third teammate was in charge of creating the pawns using clay and designing the characters for game. This team member also designed the game board and we all collaborated to agree on where each trap or item was supposed to be placed on the board.
2-3 players are able to race to finish their soup recipe first.
Players move across the board by rolling the die. The players aim is land on an ingredients Cell on the board to complete their respective soup recipe. when landing on an ingredient cell, the player gets to pick up a token that represents the ingredient they landed on.
Each Character has their respective soup recipe and players pick their character before starting the game by rolling the die. The player who rolls the highest number chooses their character first while the player who rolls the second largest number chooses second and the last player gets the remaining character.
Players have to choose their characters wisely because each character has a specific ability that gives them an advantage in the game. Character abilities are necessary in the game because there are traps on the board that add a challenge for players.
Overall, making this board game was a great first experience. I learned new skills such as 3d printing and creating unique game mechanics.
