Path to mastery is a game about a young girl trying to pursue her art passions but she needs the approval of her grandma to do so (made with construct 3). This young girl will have 5 days to reach a skill level that proves to her grandma that she has the skills to pursue her passion. players of this game will have to help the young girl to complete tasks such as drawing and watching drawing tutorials to level up and reach the skill level to impress the grandma. Players will have to remain focused and work quickly to level up before the 5th day.
In this area, players will search the girl's room for items and use them to draw. The player can also sleep to replenish their full energy but this makes them skip to the next day and start at 8 AM. At the top left of the screen are the energy and Xp meters. Next to the xp meter is a text that indicates the player's current level. At the top of the screen is the clock and at 22:00 the player immediately goes to bed.
In this area, players will eat snacks and food to replenish their energy. Each day a random amount of food spawns.
Players can access the computer from the room and once they interact with it, they will be sent to a screen full of videos. the videos symbolize different videos on a youTube like algorithm. Players can choose to watch entertaining videos or tutorial videos to level up. The choice to watch either tutorials or entertaining video represents how real life algorithms mostly recommend content that is entertaining but it is takes more effort to find videos that are helpful.
The player can access the drawing table from the room. Going to the drawing table takes up 20 energy points which symbolizes how how drawing takes up energy. Players can use the items they pick in the room to draw different art pieces and gain XP points.
once players complete a drawing or watch a tutorial video they gain xp. after players gain enough Xp, they level up.
once players level up they receive a box that gives them a new item they can use to unlock new drawings.
when day 5 comes or when the player reaches level 5, the young girl has to return back to her grandma to tell her what level she reached. If the player is below level 5, the grandma won't be satisfied and players lose meanwhile players who reach level 5 win the game.
My goal with this game was to make players realize that pursuing their art passion requires consistent work and to show up everyday to improve their skills. The grandma in the story is meant to represent the outside pressures in life such as parents that want you to prove that you can make a living out of your artistic or creative passion. other important aspects I added to this game are energy and time. lacking energy is a very real thing when it comes to working consistently and i wanted players to experience that in the gameplay. Time which we all feel like we lack is another very important real life experience. I wanted players to feel the stress of working under a timed pressure to show that time will not always work in your favour and that you have to plan ahead for each move you make. Overall, making this game was a very long project that I am very proud of. I wish to add more mechanics to this game in the future and make it available to play on phones as well.
