Badum Tsk is a physical drum set rhythm game inspired by guitar hero.
Using Scratch, my teammate and I decided to make a physical rhythm game inspired by the game “Guitar hero.” So instead of a guitar we wanted to make a drum set that the player could interact with to accumulate points in the game. My teammate and I agreed that our project will be called “Badum Tsk.”
Here are some sketches of how we wanted the game to look. We decided to use the microbit in combination with scratch to create this game
This is was our inspiration on how the drum set should be constructed. Our idea was to hide the microbit inside the bass drum.
This was a prototype of the scratch code I created to get the game working. In the beginning I was unsure on how make to keep creating new buttons to overlap the drum set pieces at random times but after looking up other rhythm games on scratch, I was able to figure out the code and it was quite rewarding to find a solution to this problem.
This was the process of making the drum set. my teammate used cardboard to make the bass drum and wrapped it with red paper to give a nice look and she followed the same steps for the rest of the drum set except the snare which we completed covered in aluminum foil. We then connected alligator clips to the part of the drum covered in aluminum foil. then the ground, which is the black cable was clipped to the drumstick to close the circuit on the microbit and trigger the code I made in scratch.
We wrapped up the design of the drum set by gluing it to a black stand and connected the microbit to the computer to start the game!
Similarly to guitar Hero, players have to hit the right part of the drum set at the right moment to accumulate points. The aim of the game is accumulate the most points possible and beat the high score! (art By me)
Overall, my teammate and I were really proud of this project since everything worked out as we wished and we even outdid our expectations. The look and the interactivity of the project was exactly what we were aiming for and the process was enjoyable as well.
