They also plan and lead Earth Day activities in April, such as an outdoor yoga session, local gardener to teach about composting and share eco-friendly practices with students.
Fall Fest/Movie Night
Co-chairs plan and manage a fall-themed family event in early October, coordinating fundraising efforts like experience-based baskets (e.g., Principal for the Day, Book Fair certificate, reserved concert seating and parking) and 50/50 raffles. Volunteers help with setup and cleanup.
Fourth Grade Farewell
Co-chairs are responsible for establishing subcommittees and chairs for all components including, but not limited to, bagel snacks, yearbook, t-shirt, 4th grade (district wide) pool party, legacy gift, farewell events, and fundraising. The co-chairs establish and communicate budgets to all subcommittee chairs and must be involved in all phases of the planning. Chairs communicate back to Mr. Freund and 4th grade teachers (when needed). Volunteers assist the chairs and subcommittee chairs in planning and executing. This is a year round commitment and only open to current fourth grade parents/guardians.
Holidays are for Sharing*
This event runs only in December. The co-chairs coordinate the collection of toys, books, gift cards for needy families for distribution throughout Verona. They will communicate the parameters of the program with the Laning community to receive all donations, setting up donation bins in the Laning lobby, managing the collections and delivery to Verona Community Center. This can all be done from home.
Hot Lunch Fridays
The SCA coordinates hot lunch from a local restaurant every Friday. Pizza is the favorite, but we are open to other offerings (e.g. chicken fingers or pasta) as well. Co-chairs are responsible for gathering orders, ordering food, purchasing weekly fruit and finding volunteers to help serve food during their week. Committee volunteers will help lead hot lunch on designated days.
Indoor Recess Enrichment
Co-chairs coordinate with vendors to come into recess during the winter months and get the students moving and having fun. Vendors rotate once weekly from January to March (martial arts, dance, yoga etc.). Co-chairs will communicate with Mr. Freund to obtain approval, establish a schedule, and set guidelines for the vendors.
Introduction to Kindergarten Workshops*
Co-chairs work with the Laning front office to conduct 2 workshops for incoming kindergarten students on the first Saturday of March and May . The co-chairs come up with crafts, activities, stories, and snacks for the students. Volunteers assist with day of duties and prep work on crafts, if needed.

Thanksgiving Feast
Co-chairs organize the annual Thanksgiving Feast for all students. Volunteers need to set up the night before and be present during the feast held in school the Wednesday before Thanksgiving. This is a special Laning tradition and a great way to get involved for new parents!

The Tricky Tray is a biennial event, with the next one scheduled for the 2026-2027 school year. The Tricky Tray Committee is responsible for planning and executing Laning’s largest fundraising event.
The committee oversees all aspects of the event, including securing donated items and themed baskets, organizing prize tiers, managing event logistics, coordinating volunteers, promoting ticket sales, and ensuring a smooth and engaging experience for attendees. Members work collaboratively with school administration and community partners to maximize participation and fundraising success.
Because this is a major biennial fundraiser, the committee plays a critical role in generating essential funds that directly support Laning. Strong organization, creativity, communication, and teamwork are key to making the event both successful and enjoyable for the Laning community.
