Frequently Asked Questions
What is a Learning Acknowledgement?
It’s a formal recognition that you have completed formation in a defined ministry area. It can support your Association review for Lay Ministerial Standing, but it does not authorize ministry by itself.
Who authorizes me to serve?
Your local Association in covenant with your Local Church. Always confirm requirements and timelines with your Committee on Ministry or Church & Ministry Committee.
Can I hold both Sacramental Servant and Servant of the Word at the same time?
Generally, no. You may hold only one Lay Ministerial Standing authorization unless you are enrolled in CTEL and making documented progress as approved by your Association.
What if I feel called beyond my current track?
Begin a formal conversation with your Association about entering discernment for Licensed Ministry. They will outline formation, supervision, and accountability.
What if our church needs sacraments and we don’t have a pastor available?
Contact your Association to arrange an Authorized Minister or an Association‑approved Sacramental Servant. Do not shift Sacramental leadership to a lay preacher.
Is there credit for prior learning?
Yes, Ask whether prior coursework or ministry experience may meet outcomes for parts of a track.
