Every person has a story, but too often we encounter one another through assumptions, first impressions, and the limited stories we have heard. Seeing the Neighbor: Beyond the Single Story invites participants to slow down, become curious, and consider how the way we see others shapes the way we welcome, communicate with, and care for them.
Through engaging videos, biblical reflection, practical examples, and ministry-based learning, this course explores implicit bias, stereotypes, microaggressions, intent and impact, empathy, and belonging. Rather than approaching these topics through guilt or blame, participants are encouraged to grow in awareness and consider how Christian faith calls us to recognize the Imago Dei, the image of God, in every person.
Drawing on Jesus' example of seeing beyond labels and first impressions, the course asks a practical question: How might we become more thoughtful disciples, compassionate leaders, and gracious neighbors?
The educational portion of the course is available free of charge. Participants seeking a certificate of completion or continuing education credit may purchase the accompanying Knowledge Checkup, complete the ministry-based case studies in one sitting, and earn a score of 80% or higher.
Be quick to listen. Slow to assume. Generous with grace.
