Amy Lamb has been a compounding pharmacist since 2013. She has worked exclusively in compounding pharmacies since that point. She has been doing private patient consultations and pharmacy consulting since 2016. She spent 5 years on the Board of Directors with the Pharmacy Association of Saskatchewan, including the Compounding Committee and also served 1 year on the board of directeors for the Association of Compounding Pharmacists of Canada. She now hopes to share her ongoing and vast experience in compounding procedures, regulations, quality assurance, and sustainability.
On Compounding Practice:
“I truly believe that this is foundational knowledge for all pharmacies, but it is very complex, time consuming, and often infrequently utilized. The new regulations require a huge investment in time and money, and these measures have been carefully designed to protect our patients and your staff. I want to make this easy for you, but moreover, I want to make this profitable for you. I am a firm believer that if we all can do a good job at basic compounding, a bit of targeted marketing from pharmacies could turn this expense into an opportunity. If you are legally obligated to spend a significant amount of time keeping up with regulations, it seems critical to ensure that new responsibility is profitable.”
On Functional Medicine:
"There is more to improving health outcomes than our current standardized diagnostic and treatment algorithms account for. Each person is an individual with significantly important personal factors that influence diagnoses and appropriate interventions. Functional medicine is the triage system that identifies each patient's personalized and modifiable health factors and applies best-evidenced comprehensive interventions. It increases your opportunities to provide private consultations for patients with complex health issues and is incredibly rewarding in the response and improvements in your patients. I feel like I am finally making the difference I sought out when I became a healthcare professional."
