Hi! My name is Lainie Rubin. I am going into my senior year of high school at Bloomfield Hills High School. The 2018-2019 school year was my first year on The Hawkeye team. My favorite section to write for is opinion/review because I love being able to express my thoughts and opinions on a topic of interest for everyone to view. I also enjoy this section because it is something that is new to me, and I have never written an opinion story previous to this year. It is a way to show my thoughts in a respectful manner, that can also entertain or start conversation between the readers of the paper. For the 2019-2020 school year, I was a staff writer who took on any role. I appreciate being able to write for all the sections as it gives me a well-rounded background in order to help others.
When I was first notified that I was chosen to be apart of The Hawkeye, I was ecstatic to be given the opportunity to expand on my skills as a journalistic writer. I wanted to be apart of The Hawkeye because I wanted to learn how to be apart of a team, show my full potential as a writer, learn different styles and techniques of being a writer, and understand all perspectives of how to create a successful paper. The Hawkeye will also show me how to become a stronger leader, to challenge myself, and to show determination for what I am passionate for. A year later, I am here to say that the way I felt has not changed. I love to be a part of such a comforting community. Additionally, I loved being able to connect with so many new friends this year through The Hawkeye.
Outside of The Hawkeye, I am a proud member of the Bloomfield Hills High School Poms team. I love being able to perform at halftime for the football and basketball games with all of my teammates. I am also co-president of the new Count Me In club at school, a member of Model UN, and on the board of a mental health organization known as UMatter. Additionally, I like to bake, shop, tan, and hangout with my friends. Some of my favorite things to bake are cheesecakes, brownies, chocolate pies, s'mores dip, and lava cakes. Throughout quarantine and into next year, I am extremely proud and excited to say that I will be starting to write a baking column that will involve my opinion, new recipes, tips, and delicious images.
As I have many aspirations for myself in future years of high school, there are realistic goals to be set in order to achieve success. First, I want to maintain a 4.0 GPA throughout the next year of high school. I want to show my hard work and dedication to school, and this is how I believe my work can pay off. Also, I want to be able to keep up with my work and relationships with teachers no matter how hard "senioritis" may hit. This way, I will be able to challenge myself as a learner and a person. Another goal I hope to reach is to be senior captain of the Varsity Poms team. I want to be able to use my skills from The Hawkeye team, and expand those skills over to the Poms team. Although they are two different teams, the qualities and skills I have and will continue to learn through The Hawkeye will shape me to be the better person I strive for each day.
