Video Remastering Program Version 2.00
Be sure to watch the "Remastered" Video at the 4k quality setting provided by YouTube.
You may need to adjust the remastered video's settings (click on the gear in the video) and select 4k quality.
The videos were resized (upsampled) to their 4k versions using the Lanczos method for resampling. Upsampling only estimates 4k quality given the original reference video. As such, original videos with low resolutions (i.e. 360p, 480p, 720p) will produce additional artifacts when upsampled to their 4k resolutions. YouTube's video compression algorithm may add to these artifacts, so please keep this in mind when viewing.
Linear Frame Interpolation was performed to achieve the "best halfway" frames. The following process describes the frame resizing and filtering steps necessary to produce better upsampled frames, included in Version 2.0 of the Video Remastering Program.
---> ( 1 ) Lanczos-3 Upsampling (pixel interpolation using a windowed Sinc function),
---> ( 2 ) Convolution Kernels for Sharpening, Saturation, Brightness, Contrast,
---> ( 3 ) Unsharp Masking for sharper edges & enhanced pixel value dynamic range,
---> ( 4 ) Bilateral Filtering for excess noise removal and edge sharpness preservation.
Both the "Remastered" and Original "Reference" videos are included for comparison. Watching both will show the improvements made by the Video Remastering Program. Comparisons between the original and 4k-upsampled frames are shown below the videos. Happy Viewing!
