Student Ambassador for La Conferencia
Karen Chavez-Chavez is a sophomore majoring in Neuroscience and Psychology with a minor in Chemistry. After graduation, she plans on applying to a Doctorate program to expand her interest in research. Karen proudly serves as the Ambassador for La Conferencia for the Carolina Latinx Center. During her free time, she is a lover of fashion, historical fiction novels, strawberry matcha, and scrapbooking!
Associate Director of the Carolina Latinx Center
Marcela Torres-Cervantes is a lover of pop culture, black iced coffee, and storytelling. She is a first-generation Mexicana Americana, working in higher education as the associate director of the Carolina Latinx Center, and proudly living in Durham with her mostly mute cat.
Presenter Chair
Gisselle Castro is a senior majoring in Psychology with a Medical Anthropology and Latina/o Studies minor. Gisselle is passionate about serving underrepresented communities and bringing forward mental health awareness. After graduation she plans to enter the workforce in Human Resources before enrolling in graduate school. In her free time, Gisselle enjoys spending time with her family and friends, cycling, and playing tennis. We look forward to seeing you at La Conferencia 2025!
Marketing Chair
Celina Ocampo is a junior majoring in Political Science and Public Policy with a minor in Conflict Management! She is Student Ambassador working for the Carolina Latinx Center and enjoys spending time with friends, drawing and debating nonsensical topics. She is passionate about educational equity and hopes to one day conduct research in the education field. We are excited to bring La Conferencia 2025 a dream come to reality!
Marketing Chair
Evelyn Gamez-Gómez is a first generation college student, double majoring in Public Policy and Medical Anthropology with a Spanish in the Legal Professions minor. She is passionate about health policy, public health, and advocating for health equity. She is particularly interested in serving marginalized and underserved communities, advocating for policies that address disparities and improve access to care for all. She is a volunteer and the cultural chair for the UNC Global Medical Brigades Organization. She also currently has two research assistant positions; one at UNC School of Medicine and the other in the Carolina Population Center. In her free time, she enjoys spending time in nature, making jewelry, thrifting, upcycling, and spending time with her family.
Finance Chair
Dayanara Camacho-Galicia is a sophomore majoring in Human Development and Family Science with a Spanish in the Medical Professions minor. After graduation, she plans on applying to the ABSN route to obtain her nursing degree. She currently works as a Student Ambassador of Communications and Development for the Carolina Latinx Center where she's in charge of the monthly CLC newsletter. She is also involved in the LÍDER program, a leadership development initiative in collaboration with the UNC Kenan-Flagler School of Business. In addition, she volunteers as an interpreter for SHAC Clinic, where she gets to spend one-on-one time with patients. During her free time, she enjoys playing tennis with her friends! Finance Chair
Angela is a junior majoring in Human Development and Family Science with minors in Speech & Hearing Sciences and Linguistics. After graduation, she plans on applying to a Speech Pathology graduate program to pursue a career in early intervention. Angela currently works at the Carolina Latinx Center as a Student Ambassador for Enlaces where she oversees a cohort of volunteers. During her free time, she enjoys spending time with her nieces and nephews, watching TV shows with too many seasons to count with your fingers, and thrifting!
