In la Cigota, there is a place for children between 3 and 12 years of age, prepared with  a lot of love and care, where there are given the opportunity to connect with themselves, with others, and with nature in a respectful way. Here, they are offered an environment that is as relaxed and harmonious as possible, where the uniqueness and rhythms of each child are respected. They are given the chance to experience themselves, discover who they are, and explore what they enjoy doing, all within a community setting where personal freedom is shaped by the freedom of the other members of the community.

Our goal is to convey to children that they are already complete and whole beings, and that they don’t need to do anything to be more or less than what they already are. In other words, we do not grade, reward, or punish them in any way. We respect and value each child’s essence, while also supporting them in their process of self-discovery, helping them find ways to be authentic without harming the social environment around them. We want them to learn to be true to themselves, without their behavior becoming an obstacle to their integration and coexistence within the community, thus learning to live in harmony. 

"making themselves" is the capacity children have of becoming,  through  experiencing himself/herself in and with the world aroud them ,  exploring the environment through countless activities and endless experiences.

We believe that any behavior in a child is impulsed by a specific need within him . That he find a way in which his needs,  interests and actions can flourish in harmony with others and the environment is of outmost importance to us.

To try to understand what need is behind a specific activity or behavior in a child in order to be able to truly accompany him is the job of the adults present in la Cigota. Creating a peacefull and relaxed atmosphere, showig the use of the didactic materials, making sure that the rules are respected, and helping children to find a good way to resolve their differences, are part of our work.

The child learns through imitation, therefore the behavior of the adults present in the space are of upmost importance. Each word, each action, the patience, the clarity, the firmness, the calmness, the faith, and even the thoughts of the adults are like seeds being planted in the child’s soul. Here,  we try to keep that in mind at all times.

We base our approach on natural and spontaneous development, starting from the child’s own interests. In prepared environments, children choose what they will work with and for how long. There are both indoor and outdoor spaces with structured and unstructured materials. Our main driving force is to understand, respect, and enhance the child’s overall development. We have been inspired by the works of Mauricio and Rebeca Wild, Maria Montessori, Rudolf Steiner, Marshall Rosenberg, and Krishnamurti, just to name a few.
