Our Purpose
We set out to write and produce the musical Labrats to create an opportunity for young actors and singers to develop and show-case their talent. With this in mind eight of the 12 key roles were written for young performing artists.
Labrats is a grass-roots endeavour. It has been work-shopped with high school and tertiary students from the greater Wellington region and trialed with other orchestras.
The cast will be guided by an accomplished creative team and work alongside experienced practitioners. Our intention is to invest in each member's development in an environment offering whanaungatanga and manaakitanga and welcoming whānau engagement. In addition to this, we are committed to pursuing excellence.
The Labrats story addresses relevant themes to our time, including perceptions of beauty,
the quest for longevity, power dynamics in relationships, chemical control, and misinformation.
We want this performed reading to be accessible to everyone so rather than selling tickets, we will welcome koha at the door.
