Andrea and Richard spent five years writing Labrats. They conducted two readings with the help of Playmarket, followed weekend workshops (See posts on Facebook and Instagram for photos from these events.) The music was trialed by a couple of orchestras then the show went into a hiatus. With a cast of 22 and an orchestra of 21, putting on a production of this scale was daunting, especially when betting on two new-comers to the scene.

In 2025 Andrea and Richard made it their goal to put the show on stage. With feedback from advisors and supported by family and friends, they have worked to pare back script and the score has been arranged for a 13-piece orchestra.
