Muhammad Khalid was born in Pakpattan (Pakistan) in 1987. He received his MSc and MPhil degrees both from the Department of Electronics, Quaid-i-Azam University Islamabad (Pakistan), respectively in 2009 and 2012. He served as a visiting faculty member in the same department from February 2011 to June 2012. Afterward, he joined COMSATS Institute of Information Technology, Sahiwal (Pakistan), as a lecturer in the Department of Computer Sciences. In 2012 he was awarded a three-year fellowship for doctorate by "La Sapienza" University of Rome and currently, he is attending his 3rd year course of the Doctoral School in Mathematics for Engineering, Electromagnetics and Nanosciences at the Department of Information Engineering, Electronics and Telecommunications.
His doctoral dissertation includes the following research:
• A study of electromagnetic reflection from the interface of a lossy electric-magnetic uniaxial medium with optic axis in a generic direction and its applications to boundary conditions. A general class of anisotropic media is considered whose constitutive parameters can be represented by complex diagonal tensors.
• The propagation of both homogeneous and inhomogeneous waves in the uniaxial lossy medium is investigated. The mathematical relations for the attenuation and the phase constants are calculated for the both cases.
• Reflection analysis of a novel anisotropic medium characterized by particular material properties; with an emphasize on the direction of optic axis of the material and its influence on the reflection characteristics.
• Three dimensional computer simulations on the structure, consisting of thin-wires and split-ring resonators, proposed for the realization of DB boundary medium.
• Using the homogenization approach, the retrieval of effective constitutive parameters of the above mentioned metamaterials by applying the scattering parameters (S-parameters) inversion algorithm.
