The parasitic fauna of Amami Islands, Japan
Database
A parasite database for wildlife on Amami Oshima and Tokunoshima islands. Available in Japanese only. This database was created with support from the 32nd Pro Natura Fund Grant provided by the Pro Natura Foundation Japan.
Protocols
The endangered Ryukyu long-furred rat (Diplothrix legata) can serve as a definitive host of Angiostrongylus cantonensis. Here, we present a simple diagnostic method for detecting first-stage larvae (L1) in fecal samples of the Ryukyu long-furred rat. This method can be performed at local veterinary clinics and field survey sites without the need for specialized equipment and at low cost.
