Always measure 3 times! We want to find an average for each measurement and know when to throw out a measurement we messed up on. If we only have 2 measurements we cannot tell which is bad!
Our most common tools in the lab:
Meter stick measures distance
Stopwatch / digital stopwatch measures time
Platform balance measures mass
Many of our "high-tech" tools we use function with a combination of these measurements. Photogates measure time and position, or length, with a computer. Even something like a barometer is measuring a distance in order to calculate pressure.
"If you master the simple tool, you have mastered the complex."

This is an article I wrote to help you start solving physics problems. It is especially geared toward a 2D motion unit, but also applies to what we learn in other units.
