Welcome Talent and Performers! We are super thrilled to be hosting our first showcase! If you are an experienced showcaser, you know that the vast majority of showcases (for libraries, seniors, preschools, etc) happen in the far outskirts of Southern California, typically in Orange County, which means most of the bookings are also deep in Orange County. But many of us are actually based in the LA area and would love to find more opportunities to perform here in LA. So this is the showcase meant for making that happen!
Our goal is to connect talented acts with activity directors and entertainment managers at senior residences, clubs, and activity groups throughout the area. We are seeking ALL kinds of talent for this showcase, with the only requirement is that you have an act geared towards seniors. We're open to:
Musicians
Singers
Dancers (if within a compact space or dance workshop teachers)
Comedians
Impersonators and Portrayal Artists
Puppeteers and Marionettes
Teachers and instructors who could leave one-off classes or weekly workshops
other variety acts....
This is a fee-based showcase, but know that the fee is based upon cost-sharing the cost of renting the space, the electronics, the talent booklet printing, the time and costs it takes to get hiring personnel at the show, snacks and food for the day, insurance, etc. Our aim is to keep the fee as absolutely low as possible, just to cover the costs of the event. The fee will more than pay itself in money saved from not sending pricey mailers, time not driving all over town to advertise yourself one by one to venues, and sanity saved by not sending hundreds of emails that go unanswered. You'll meet the movers and shakers right here in one place!
Activity Directors and Entertainment Managers will be given a pamphlet of acts- complete with your headshot, bio, rates, contact information, etc. You should bring business cards, printed materials, anything you think you may need. But don't forget your calendar! Some venues will book you there on the spot! Most will call throughout the year to book you. Don't be disheartened either way. Bookings will come!
This first year, we will need some assistance and volunteers. Those who volunteer for an AM shift will be scheduled in Act 2 so you have time to relax, change, and get ready. And vice versa for the PM volunteers, you'll perform in the first half, relax a bit, then help with volunteering. Anyone who volunteers will be given their time preference for performing. See the RSVP form for more details.
There is NO requirement to come all day. I don't think performers from other showcases would tell you they lost, or gained, bookings by not staying all day. You just need to show up 20 minutes before your timeslot, and then you can leave right after.
