We are in the commune of Fosciandora, in the Garfagnana region of Tuscany.
The nearest town is Castelnuovo di Garfagnana. It has a spectacular theatre, an international music school, a good local market (on Thursdays), and many shops and restaurants.
Nearest supermarkets are in Castelnuovo. There is a Carrefour supermarket near the main bridge, but you can also find good products in the local shops. The nearest large supermarket is Conad in Gallicano, which is about a ten-minute drive.

There is a small local train station, Fosciandora-Ceserana, which is walking distance from the house. It has early and late trains, some of which are direct to Pisa, although most stop at Lucca. Castelnuovo has a larger train station with more routes. Check Trenitalia for more information.
There is a regular bus service that runs through the local villages. You will need to buy tickets in advance at the tobacconists in Castelnuovo.
Many visitors to the house arrive by public transport and walk to the house from the station. The station is next to a bar/pizzeria, which is a great place to hang out if you are waiting to pick someone up.
Local trains are very cheap and a great way to get about, even if you have a car. Lucca and Pisa are easy to get to by train.
