My understanding of cognitive levels has changed greatly over the past semester learning about them. I never had really thought about how many different types of cognitive levels there are. I also find it interesting on how we are able to screen for these levels based off of simple, yet complex activities.  As an occupational therapy practitioner, it will be important for me to understand the cognitive levels as I'm working with clients who may need education or practice on how to increase and improve their cognition. I will best be able to create treatment plans based off of the level of cognition a client is on. I may need to understand cognition as an OT practitioner when a client may have a cognition deficit, and I will be able to help come up with a plan as to what I may need to do based off of the deficit.

For a field trip, I got to go to Ability IS and help clients with the ACL stitching. I loved my experience at the Ability IS center with teaching some of the people there about the ACL. I noticed with my assigned client was able to do the running stitch. However, when it came to the other 2 stitches, the client did have some trouble and would resort back to the running stiches of what she knew to do. When I had "made a mistake" in the stich, the client was not able to solve to fix it but instead kept adding more stiches.  Completing the ACLS with community client had help me grow my understanding and purpose of the importance of doing and completing the ACL test. In seeing that my client had struggle with it, and as an OT practitioner, I could use what I had learned about the client's cognitive level and implement a plan to help improve the client's cognition.

 Planning and running a group designed for ACL helped me as a future OT practitioner to give me confidence in providing this test. I am able to now know what I will need to know for in the future to help clients that may be struggling with cognition. If I were to do anything different, I would have wanted to continue to work on the cordovan stitch so that I could be more confident in showing how to do that type of stitch.
