La Jolla High School was named a Speech School of Honor in the 2024 National Speech and Debate Tournament in Des Moines (Top 40 out of 1,000 or so schools). We encourage you to join our wonderful community! There are a plethora of events that everyone can engage in and enjoy. If you like humor, then grab a buddy and try Humorous Interpretation, or maybe you're a avid follower of politics, National Extemporaneous is for you! Or maybe you just have something that you feel the world has to hear, be it the complex issue of the Palestinian-Israeli Conflict or even if you want to speak about cows for 15 minutes, speech is the place for you!

I would personally recommend newcomers to try Impromptu Speaking. It's short and sweet, but can still be daunting. But don't fret! This is the place where you build your basic speaking skills. Failure is good! That means you're learning. You'll regret not trying
