From birthday party invitations, allergies, ....to hot lunch orders and poop :)  I've heard it all, so don't be afraid to ask me anything at anytime!

Do you speak French all day?

YES!!!  I will be speaking only in French to your child (unless they are sick/hurt).  

How much French should my child be speaking in Grade 2?

When your child was in Kindergarten and Grade 1, the focus was largely on passive listening, absorbing vocabulary, and speaking in short, structured/prompted sentences.  Grade 2 is the major transition year where students are expected to speak in French at all possible times in class. At the start of the year, our Grade 2 French Immersion team will spend the first few weeks building confidence, reviewing blended sounds, and using high praise. We use positive reinforcement, visual anchor charts, and repetitive language routines to gently enforce the "French-only" classroom expectations.  

Every child learns at a different pace, and that's ok! 

What is the homework routine in Grade 2?

When homework begins, the main focus will be reading, writing simple sentences and spelling words for the week.  Book bags/spelling lists will be sent home every Monday.  Please keep them at home and return the bags on Friday.

I don't speak French...is that a problem?

Absolutely not!  Your child will love to teach you new words and songs as he/she learns them!  

It's my child's birthday party....can I send invitations to school for you to pass out to my child's friends?

If you have invitations that are ready to go, please send them to school in a large unmarked envelope, and if possible, don't tell your child that there are birthday inviations in the envelope!  This way, I can put invitations in students' bags discreetly, without having your child broadcast to the entire class that there is a party and only a few people are invited!   There is nothing more heartbreaking than seeing the look in a little ones' eyes when they realize that they have not been invited to a party when others have been. 

Is Glen Stewart peanut-free?

Yes!  Due to life-threatening allergies, we are also fish/shellfish free (this includes canned tuna)!

What time should I drop off/pick up my child from school?

Student drop off begins at 8:00 a.m.  Please do not drop your child off any earlier since there are no teachers available to supervise children outside and our doors open at 8:00 a.m.!   Classes begin at 8:30, so dropping your child off no later than 8:20 is preferable (especially in the winter months when it takes much longer for the kids to get settled for the day!)  

When picking up your child at the end of the day, there are two options:

1.  If you are picking your child up at regular dismissal time please park your car and come stand in the parent pick-up area (which is close to the fence and tree line).  Due to the large number of classes and busses at Glen Stewart, teachers walk their classes outside every day, all year long.  Classes will walk past the parent pick-up area, and if you are there already, your child can come directly to you.  Please remind your child to tell me before he/she runs to you!  If you are not there by the time we walk by, no worries!  Your child stays in line with me, we will drop all of the other children off at their busses and will come back to the parent pick-up area!  Parents are not allowed in the bus loop, so please wait in the designated area.

2.  If you are picking your child up early from school you can come into the lobby, and our amazing secretaries will call your child up to meet you!
