Mathematical Equations
Here are some examples to demonstrate how to pronounce basic equations of addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division.
-Addition and Subtraction
"Plus" and "and" are both used to add numbers. "Plus" is more common.
We use "minus" to subtract numbers. If a number is negative, simply use "negative" before the number.
The symbol "=" is pronounced as "equals." In a more spontaneous manner, you may use "is" referring to "equals”.
-Multiplication and Division
When multiplying numbers, you can use "times" and "multiplied by"
The phrase "divided by" is used to divide numbers.
-Squared and Cubed
Below is a list of more examples of mathematical equations. If you don't have any ideas about the terms of square root, squared, cubed, etc, please have a look at the illustration below.
examples:
- Write the following in symbols: 5 squared is 25 52=25
- Write the following in symbols: 2 cubed equals 8. 23= 8
